Yeah, it sounds quick and easy—but it’s a trap. Trash bags rip, they’re impossible to stack, and nothing’s protected. Plus, you’ll constantly wonder if you’re about to toss out your favorite hoodie by mistake.

That Hanger/Trash Bag Clothes Trick

You’ve probably seen this one: keep your clothes on hangers and just bag them up. Honestly? It’s awkward to carry, the hangers get tangled, and your clothes come out wrinkled and sad… but we’ve used this effectively for a very short-term transfer – from one closet straight to another! (And we used really heavy duty bags that we were able to re-use for our garbage!)

Last-Minute “Miscellaneous” Boxes

These are the boxes that haunt your dreams. They’re always filled with the weirdest mix of stuff—and it’s usually the things you need first but can’t find anywhere. Just… don’t.

Overstuffing Boxes to “Save Space”

Sounds efficient, right? Until the box rips open mid-move or you throw your back out trying to lift it. Keep things manageable—your spine will thank you.

Wrapping Breakables in Newspaper

It seems like a good idea until you’re scrubbing ink off every plate and glass you own. Just use packing paper—or even your t-shirts. Cleaner, and double duty.

Taping Drawers Shut Without Padding

This is a recipe for busted drawer handles and scratched-up furniture. Wrap the whole dresser in stretch wrap or pull the drawers out and move them separately. Less chaos.

Doing a Big Move Solo

We get it, movers can be pricey—but trying to handle everything yourself can end up costing more (in time, energy, or even injuries). If there’s stairs or heavy stuff, call in help!

Grabbing Free Boxes from Grocery Stores

Some of them are fine—but others are dirty, weak, or oddly shaped. Use them for pillows or towels at best. For your breakables? Spring for the good boxes.

Labeling Just the Top of the Box

Once everything’s stacked up, that top label is basically invisible. Slap a label on the side too—you’ll be glad you did when you’re digging through a tower of boxes.

Trust me, you do not want to be tearing through boxes at midnight looking for toothpaste or a phone charger. Pack a little overnight bag with your must-haves. Total lifesaver.
