Elmhurst Movers - Top Things to Do Summer 2025

UMBRELLA SKY PROJECT

To kick off the summer season, Elmurst’s City Centre will be throwing a Summer Street Party on May 31, 2025 from 4pm – 7pm.  Not only will this street party be a chance for the community to gather and listen to live music and view art, it will be the official opening of the Umbrella Sky Project!

This summer marks the third annual Umbrella Sky Project in Elmhurst.  The installation features colorful umbrellas opened and hung from the sky.  Elmhurst is actually one of the six first cities in the United States to have such an installation.

Make sure to stop by the Summer Street Party!  But, if you’re booked and busy on May 31, no worries!  This installation will be up all summer long.  For more information follow this link!

ELMHURST FARMERS MARKET

If you’re looking for something consistent to do or a place to meet up with friends outside, make sure to check out Elmhurst’s very own Farmers Market.

Every Wednesday, from June to October, Elhurst will be hosting a Farmers Market in the parking lots of Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, located at 149 West Brush Hill Road. This is a great way to support local farmers and vendors while getting quality produce, food, or other items! For reference of products you can expect at the Elmhurst Farmers Market, click here for a list of merchants.

FAMILY FARM FEST

Mark your calendars for July 13, 2025!  The Elmhurst History Museum is hosting a Family Farm Fest.  This fest will showcase live music, a petting zoo, historic tractors, introductions to farm chores, and even harvesting honey from bee hives.  This event will be free to all from 1pm – 4pm.

The Elmhurst History Museum will be hosting other events this summer.  If the Family Farm Fest interests you, learn more about the museum’s summer events! Click this link for more information.

WILDER PARK CONSERVATORY

Elmhurst has its very own conservatory which is actually open all year round!  However, the Conservatory may offer different natural sights in the summer versus the winter.  During the summer months the Conservatory is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm.

By visiting the Conservatory, you will not only be a witness to beautiful flowers and foliage, you will be a witness of history!  The Wilder Park Conservatory has been around since 1923, so it is over 100 years old.  For more information on visiting the Conservatory or its rich history, follow this link for more!

SUGAR CREEK GOLF COURSE

If you enjoy the outdoors and a nice view, head to Sugar Creek for a golf outing.  During the summer, Sugar Creek offers several ways to get the whole family interested in golf!

Sugar Creek is a course with 9 holes which is great for anyone who is starting out golfing, for socializing with friends, but it does offer challenging holes for those who are more experienced golfers.

For young golfers just getting started, there are summer golf camps starting for age groups from 6 to 13.  There are also programs for high schoolers and some for adults who are trying to strengthen their golf game.  For more information on programs click here!

Booking a tee time or any program is easy on Sugar Creek Golf Course’s website. And, for those who don’t want to travel from hole to hole, Sugar Creek offers a Driving Range as well, so anyone can focus on their golf swing!

ILLINOIS PRAIRIE PATH

Home to the Great Western Prairie, Illinois Prairie Path offers a look into nature and into history.  The Great Western Prairie is a habitat that shows its visitors what the majority of Illinois looked like before developments took place.  Illinois was full of prairie land!  This part of the Illinois Prairie Path is not a restoration, it is the natural habitat it’s been for centuries.  To learn more about the Great Western Prairie, check out this video.

Other than centuries old history, the Illinois Prairie Path is 62 miles long!  Walking, running, biking and horseback riding are welcome here.

For a map of the Trail, and locations to park and enter the path, click here.  There are some entrances in Elmhurst, but the Illinois Prairie Trail can take you all over Illinois!

CROSSINGS BY BERNARD WILLIAMS

The works of Bernard Williams, a Chicago based artist, will be on display in an indoor and outdoor exhibit at the Wilder Park, Hostetler Gallery and the McCormick House.  Williams has been creating sculptures and large scale art for over thirty years.  He focuses on art that gives forgotten stories in history and gives them new perspectives, and his works often celebrate Black achievement.

This is a perfect place to gather in the sun to experience art.  You can experience his works from May 1st until August 17th this summer.  For more information, please follow this link.

Kicking off Williams’ exhibit is a free two day fest called Art in Wilder Park.  Local artists covering over 130 booths will display and sell their art.  There will be food and activities for kids as well.  Click this link for more information!
