“Worst Moving Company EVER!”
“…the team began charging me at 9:45 AM, they didn’t start loading until 10:05 AM. What should have been a four-hour move (estimated at no more than $600) dragged into a 12-hour ordeal, and I was hit with an outrageous bill of over $1,400.
The movers had 80% of my items loaded before noon but didn’t arrive at my new place until 4:50 PM, citing vague reasons like traffic and elevator issues. They didn’t finish unloading until 8 PM, which is absurd for a simple 2-bedroom apartment move.”
Did this poor person complain?
YES! Then the moving manager threatened to leave their belongings by the side of the road!

That’s Not My Stuff!
A young Air Force vet and his wife moved across country, arriving at their new home and watching the moving truck pull up. As the items continue streaming into their home, it suddenly dawns on them that none of the items belong to them – the moving company was delivering the wrong stuff!
Last Minute Mover Cancellation
With 15 minutes until the movers were meant to arrive, an elderly couple received a text message stating their move had been cancelled! The couple managed to rent and load a moving truck themselves but received a bill from the moving company a week later… with a cancellation fee! The couple called the company to dispute the claim, but the moving company tried to demand a credit card number before they would continue the call to hear the dispute!

Apps that offer moving services using independent contractors cannot be trusted. Often, movers will arrive at different times of the day – leaving you wondering when and if your move will even be completed.
Sometimes, a mover will need to finish one job before they can get to your move. It’s understanding that a moving company tries to book its crews for profits and efficiency, but… Timings are totally unpredictable, so be prepared for anything!

Hostage Loads Happen!
This actually happened to my sister who moved across the country! When the moving company arrived in San Francisco from Chicago, they demanded an extra charge of $1700 to unload the truck, or they were going to leave! There is nothing one can do in this situation except to pay! With ALL her belongings sat in front of her new apartment, she wrote the check and called it a wash!
Moving Quote Feels Too Low?
Be careful – if that moving quote feels too low something is probably going to surprise you! Seek out other movers and get additional quotes to compare what you get for the estimate.

Vague contracts with high pressure tactics to get you to sign and commit are also a red flag. If the company’s name and DOT number are not specifically listed on the contract, step back! If the contract doesn’t express your rights and the moving company’s obligations – or seems quite “thin” and without content, you’re being set up for a bad situation! Moving Truck Accidents
Moving trucks are beasts! Should a truck back into your or someone else’s car, the damage is likely to be on the bigger side, which is what happened to one mover, whose moving company damaged a neighbor’s car, but didn’t want to face the consequences. They tried to befriend the mover to persuade him not to contact the damaged car’s owner – but unfortunately, a neighbor saw what happened and helped the victim pursue a claim against the moving company who would have been happy to not report – or pay for the damage!
Forced Errors: Lying About Your Move Size (Be Honest!)
This recently happened to us…
A customer wasn’t honest about the size of their move, so we finished the job, but ended up working many hours over what we had planned for.
When the move was complete, the client was delighted with our movers but gave us a google review saying:
“I’m going to start with the positive … the guys working are kind and hard workers. We had issues in the house that were worse than we were aware of. The price quoted was good and I had told the office we had a ‘lot of stuff’.
The problem is they say your move is 4 hours and then then it’s NOT COMPLETE at 4 hours. We were charged double for our move (that they under estimated. And I had specifically asked if there was a “box limit”!!! And was told “no”.)
Well, obviously we had to reply to this dishonest review with:
“We are very sorry to hear about your service issues on your move. We try to estimate jobs as close as we can based upon what information we are given. We are at least pleased to know you were happy with the men and their work/attitude. “
Moving Personas to Avoid
The “Too Tired” Mover
A mover was scheduled to move a couple, but kept delaying the move, until, claiming fatigue and finally citing a low key federal holiday as the reason he couldn’t work.. Managed to get himself fired.
Needless to say the couple was better off with another mover.
The “Unintentional Weight Gain”
A company re-weighed the truck after pickup and claimed it had an extra 2,000 pounds, demanding more money to deliver the goods.
The “Unclaimed Belongings”
A customer received items that didn’t belong to them and was unable to get the company to retrieve their belongings, despite multiple calls.
BEWARE OF LEAD GEN MOVING COMPANIES!!!
The “Hostage Situation”
A company held a customer’s goods hostage after inflating the price, and it turned out they were not even authorized to move household goods.

The “Empty Dresser” Problem
Some customers have complained about having to empty drawers for movers, when it’s actually safer and easier for the movers if the drawers are left full.

Only work with reputable movers that are licensed and insured! Be sure to check their customer reviews!
Full Aquarium Moving Service?
“What do you mean you can’t move my full 50-gallon aquarium with 20 fish in it? Aren’t you a ‘professional mover’? I could move this thing myself – I just don’t want to!”
Of course, the moving company cannot guarantee that the tank won’t spill, fish won’t die, and the person’s belongings won’t get wet or damaged in the move.
Some people just don’t like to hear “no”.
How to Avoid Scam Movers?
Check the Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker to see if your moving company is even listed!
Check to see if they have any customer reviews online. No testimonies is a BAD sign and also indicates that a moving company may have changed their name to run away from their history of bad reviews and complaints!
Moving Companies that Change Names
To avoid bad reviews and run away from a bad reputation, history of bad service a horrible reputation, moving companies have been known to change their names. In this article, one moving company has been recorded changing their name 11 times!
Another had a history of more than 2,000 victims across the country!
